Our commitment
NearMasjid is made by an independent developer to help you find a masjid. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
No account
NearMasjid works without an account. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number unless you choose to email us.
Location
NearMasjid asks to use your location while you use the app. It is used on your device to show nearby mosques, calculate prayer times, work out the Qibla direction, plan routes and show your position on the map. We do not send your location to our servers. You can turn location off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → NearMasjid and search by town or postcode instead.
Stored on your device
Your settings (calculation method, Asr rule, adhan, theme, script), My Mosque, bookmarks, tasbih counts and downloaded recitations and adhan sounds are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
Services the app contacts
To provide some features, the app makes requests that contain no personal identifiers:
- Apple Maps (Apple) to show maps, search for places and mosques, and plan routes.
- postcodes.io to turn a UK postcode you type into coordinates.
- Quran audio from cdn.islamic.network and api.qurancdn.com to stream or download the recitation you choose.
- Our data service (nearmasjid-data.pages.dev and our API) to download mosque data packs, adhan sounds and official prayer timetables.
Mosque submissions and reports
If you add a mosque, suggest facilities or report a problem, the details you enter (such as the mosque name, location, address and notes) are sent to our server so we can review them. To stop spam, the app proves it is a genuine copy using Apple’s App Attest, and the server stores a one-way, salted hash of your IP address and an anonymous device key to apply a daily limit. Please don’t include personal information in the notes.
Notifications
Adhan and prayer notifications are scheduled on your device by iOS. No push notification server is involved.
Crash reports
If you allow it in iOS Settings, Apple may share anonymous crash logs with us to help fix bugs.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts.
Children
NearMasjid is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
