Every page on this site and every screen in the app is built from the sources below. We don't invent counts, ratings or test results.
Mosques on this website
The 213 city pages list mosques from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). A mosque is any OpenStreetMap place tagged amenity=place_of_worship and religion=muslim. Unnamed entries and generic names like “Mosque” are left out. Each mosque is placed in the nearest city within 15 km, and a city gets a page only when it has at least five named mosques.
- GB: 1,387 named mosques, data from October 2026.
- US: 1,104 named mosques, data from July 2026.
- CA: 325 named mosques, data from July 2026.
- AU: 110 named mosques, data from July 2026.
- DE: 1,494 named mosques, data from July 2026.
- FR: 1,020 named mosques, data from July 2026.
City names, regions and populations come from GeoNames (cities with 15,000+ people), licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Mosques in the app
- UK: a directory of about 2,400 mosques built into the app, compiled from MuslimsInBritain.org and OpenStreetMap, with duplicates removed.
- 16 more countries: OpenStreetMap data packs, downloaded when you need them.
- Everywhere else, and where data is thin: Apple Maps search results.
- Users can report problems and suggest facilities for any mosque, and add missing mosques in the UK. Every submission is reviewed before it is published.
Qibla bearings
The Qibla is the initial great-circle bearing from a place to the Kaaba at 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E, measured clockwise from true north. Distances use the haversine formula with a mean Earth radius of 6,371 km. The app uses the same calculation.
Prayer times
The app calculates prayer times on your device with the open-source Adhan library (MIT licence) and your chosen method, or uses the official London Unified Islamic Prayer Timetable in London.
Quran
Uthmani text from Tanzil.net; Indo-Pak text from qul.tarteel.ai; fonts by the King Fahd Glorious Qur'an Printing Complex, Pakistan Data Management Services and QuranWBW.

Competitor facts (price, ads, ratings, privacy labels, features) come from each app's App Store listing or official website, linked under Sources with the month we checked. We make NearMasjid, so we say where another app is the better fit.
